Baile funk is the musical explosion, from the shantytowns of Rio de Janeiro. It has invaded Brazil; it is now quickly reaching Europe. For millions of Brazilians, Mr Catra is today’s biggest Baile funk star, the one who imposed it as a mainstream style, just like samba or rap.With the throaty sound of the Booty Beats and bass, Mr Catra sings about life in the favelas, the ongoing wars between gangs and the military police, sex and hope in the future. He alternately mixes funk, samba, rap, electro… everything goes, thanks to Dj Sandrinho’s MPC’s magic touch. The public goes wild and explodes in a great dance.  

His special feature: subversion and comics. The regular censorship of his «funk proibido» (forbidden) just strengthened the massive success of a music that describes the crude reality and embodies the free voice of the favela, with a devastating sense of humour.
